A 12 x 24 narrow living room that gets lots of light and is the main spot for relaxing and entertaining.

Hanging lights do a nice job of lowering the ceiling s perceived height so the space doesn t feel so daunting. The kitchen is two steps higher than the rest of the room and there is a lovely flow from the living room through french doors onto the garden that i don t want to block. However if you want to go for darker shades confine these to just one wall and paint the others in lighter shades. You may be tempted to push furniture up against the walls in a long narrow living room to open up the space but the effect will only highlight the shape of the room making it feel longer and narrower.
